Coastal Engineering Indices
We are investigating the use of lidar, and acoustic ocean and coastal mapping data in Super Storm Sandy-impacted areas to compute indicators that facility and enhance generation of Coastal Engineering Indices [CEI]. CEIs are designed to summarize conditions of interest for regional sediment management, engineering, and emergency response situations. These indices are computed using geomorphic parameters (e.g., dune height, beam width), as well as environmental and human use parameters. Here, we are focussing on providing the core data estimates required to build CEIs, in the appropriate framework to facilitate their use.
